John 15:4-5 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. 5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
What do you rely on for your security? Your finances? Elected leaders? Your family? We so often rely on good things instead of the best thing. We put our trust in people and things rather than in Jesus, and we think we are doing well. But human effort won’t succeed. It will wither and die.
But Jesus said that apart from Him, it’s all worthless. You can work as hard as you want, but it will not matter. Are you abiding in Him? Do you draw your strength from Him? He is the true vine. We are branches, producing fruit by His grace. And everything we accomplish is through His power. Nothing else will last. Only what He brings into our lives. So abide. Keep holding tight to Jesus. And never let Him go.
