John 20:15-16 Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to him in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher).
In her grief, through swollen, tear-filled eyes, Mary stooped down to look into the tomb. And she saw 2 angels. “They asked her why she was crying. She told them it was because someone had taken the body of Jesus. Did she even realize at that moment that she was talking to angels? In her deep grief, I don’t think her mind even processed it.
But then she turned around and saw a man. A man she didn’t recognize. A man who might be anybody, maybe even someone who worked there, who might know the answer to her question. A man who asked her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” She thought He was the gardener.
And then the unexpected happened. Jesus spoke her name. Tenderly, Jesus let her know that He was alive. Mary didn’t recognize Jesus. But then he called her by name.
And Mary responded to Jesus. The term she used can be translated "my dear lord".
Jesus is calling your name today. He is calling you to new life in Him. Will you say "Yes" to Jesus today?
