James 5:17-18 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. 18 Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit.
Elijah prayed powerful prayers. And yet, he had "a nature like ours". He had a sin nature. He was very human. Just like you and me.
Then why were his prayers so much powerful than ours often are? I think there is one main reason. God was the love of his life. Everything he did centered on his love for God.
If we want power in our prayers, the source of the power and the focus of our prayers needs to be central in our lives. Are you in love with Jesus? Is He the center of all you do? If not, it's time to return to Him.
In Revelation 2:4, God tells the church of Ephesus, "But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first." They are then instructed to return to that first love that they had for Jesus.
Return to your first love. Once more, make Jesus the center of your life. And you too will have powerful prayers.
