I gladly stayed up for the celebration last night. I even bought a championship cap and mug today. Oh, yes, and a flag to fly proudly for the next year or more.
We love to win. But in sports as in war, when one wins, someone else loses. Most of life is like that. But not all.
As I write this, I am thinking of the family who lost "Mom" and "Grandma" last night. A dear lady in our church passed away. In fact, she was one of the three last charter members of Faith Baptist Church.
She won. She won big. In fact, she won it all. Last night, she went from this world of suffering, pain and confusion to be with Jesus. No more suffering, no more pain, no more confusion. Just being in His presence forever!
She won through to her reward. Some win and some lose. But it doesn't have to be that way. The Bible says, "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved."
But don't just believe that He is God. Having faith in Him as Lord means acting on that belief. It means living your life for Him, because He is YOUR Lord.
A special lady left us last night. She was victorious, and you can be, too. Because Jesus died to take away our sin, and rose again to life, we too can live with Him forever.
Jesus won the war, defeating death forever. Trust Him to be your Lord, and to turn your life from defeat to victory.
"Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
