Ah, Springtime! Yesterday we experienced "springing ahead" as we reset the clocks to Daylight Saving Time. In just 11 more days it is officially Spring.
Temperatures this week will be in the upper 40's after a very cold couple of weeks with wind chills in the -20s. The Apostle Island Ice Caves which finally opened last weekend will probably close for the season this week. The ski hill is still open, but can't last long.
As our snow melts and patches of lawn appear, I think of warm breezes, green leaves and flowers to come. The warmth, the moisture and the bright sunlight all come together to wake the sleeping trees and grass. New life begins as seeds dropped last fall sprout and rise from the ground.
Spring is the time of new life, and the time of awakening for hibernating plants and animals. It is a time of new beginnings.
Check out Ephesians 5:13-16:
But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says,
“Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”
Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.
This is not just the springtime of nature. It is also our springtime. It is time for us to wake up from our winter slumber and come alive. It's time to take the light of Jesus and wake our neighbors! It's time to do all we can to shine Jesus in the dark places and watch Him bring others to new life!
It's time to make the best use we can of the time we are given. As I am writing this, I remember a great minister of the gospel who went home last week. As I was writing this, I received a call that another friend in ministry is in intensive care after having a heart attack and surgery.
Time is short. You don't know how much time you have to walk wisely, to "walk in the light as He is in the light".
It's the time of new life. It's time for a new beginning.
So don't waste time. Wake up! It's time to shine your light!
