Blessings come in all sizes and shapes. We are blessed to have a great church, we are blessed with wonderful children and grandchildren, and we have even been blessed recently with a gift of new tires. The beautiful fall colors, harvest and special treats of the season are also blessings.
But how many times do we not even recognize the blessings of God? Every adult Sunday School begins with a question. "How have you seen God work this week?" The greatest blessing we have is God working in our lives.
I know two people who have terminal cancer. Both are long-time believers in Jesus. Is God blessing them? Is He working in their lives?
Both are incredible testimonies of God's peace, and yes, even His love. In both cases families are being drawn together. The spouses are trusting God for His strength and peace as they go with their best friends into the valley of the shadow of death knowing that they will walk out of it alone.
Yet not alone. Never alone. Let me change my statement. The greatest blessing we have is God's presence in our lives.
Some blessings come with laughter, and some with tears. But in each circumstance, we have God's blessing of His promise. Jesus said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." Never. Never alone, never forsaken.
Always surrounded by His love.
