Feeding The Birds

What a great time of year!  The birds and flowers are coming back.  Bayfield is known for daffodils blooming everywhere in the spring.  Robins are back, red-winged blackbirds, and finches.  I am just about to put out finch & oriole feeders, and the hummingbird feeder.
Because I need to take care of the birds.  I need to check on the flowers, to make sure they bloom on time.  It is all up to me to take care of spring, to make sure it happens when & how it’s supposed to.  If I don’t do it, who will?
That is absurd, isn't it?  It would be silly to think I could do that.

Matthew 6:26-34 (ESV) says:  Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?  And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life?  And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these.  But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith!  Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’  For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.  But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Jesus was making a point.  Nothing we do can keep us alive & healthy when God says it’s time to go.  But don’t worry.  God knows,  He cares.  He takes care of the birds & flowers, not me.  But you are worth much more than the birds.

Ever see a bird in nest?  Ever see one sit back & wait for Jesus to drop a worm?  Of course not.  They go out every day, seek the thing God wants to give them.  We need to do that, too.
Seek 1st His kingdom & His righteousness.  Don’t worry about tomorrow, just live for today.  But don’t live for yourself.  Seek God’s kingdom, choose to do what is right.  Why?  Because every sin is sin against God.  Do something to someone else, think evil of someone, God is the One you are sinning against.  But He is waiting to forgive you.
Trust Jesus to take care of you.  Do you know Him?  He is giver of life, He isn’t just concerned with birds & flowers.  He wants to give you life.  But you need to come to him.  He doesn’t just drop the gift of salvation in your nest, you need to admit you are sinner, turn away from that sin & turn to Him, let Him clothe you in His pure love, let Him take care of you.
