This year I heard several people talking about it being the Holiday Season because Halloween was only 2 weeks away.
Is Christmas only about shopping, and making money? I thought Black Friday was called that because you had to get up in the dark, stand in line in the dark, and return home in the dark. Of course it is really called black because even companies that were in the red all year suddenly turned a profit on that day.
So, shopping, decorations, cookies, music, giving, Santa, snow (yes, we hope to have some more by then), and especially receiving seem to be the central themes of Christmas. Several commercials tell you to save the hassle of shopping and buy yourself a new car. Why not, you deserve it, right?
Why did Jesus come? To give us a reason to spend money and get stuff? Or did He come to give Himself?
What do you think about this season? Is it a time for self-indulgence, or is it a time to consider that 1st Christmas Gift, lying in a cave used for animals, wrapped in rags, with a feeding trough for a bed?
Aren't you glad Jesus didn't choose to spend Christmas like we do? He would have had the car, and we would have had eternity without Him.
Jesus really is the reason for the season. Take time today to consider the One who came to save you from your sin. He is the perfect gift.
