Have you ever wondered why you should come to church? What does it really do for you, anyway? Do they even miss me when I'm gone?
As a pastor, let me answer the last question first. YES! When our people miss church, I notice and I miss them. These are people who are "supposed" to be serving together with me, and when they are not in church, there is a hole in the body! I wish everyone could grasp the importance of being in church as ministry to those around them.
So what does coming to church really do for you? Why bother, when you can take a better nap at home, or read a good devotional and watch an entertaining preacher on television? Really, why go through all the trouble of getting there, knowing that the preacher will only try to stir you up?
Why come & be stirred up? Because it’s the only place you will be stirred up. Because we need each other to fulfill our mission. Hebrews 10:23-25 says, "Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near."
Have you been stirred up to love & good works? The Day is drawing near. We need each other to challenge each other in ministry. If we don’t influence each other, someone else will.
So come to church this Sunday. Dare to be stirred up. Then stir up someone else.
